1880 US Census for Jamaica, Queens, NY lists Phoebe Van Wicklen, 66, keeping house, with Jane Van Wicklen, 68, boarder, Garrett Van Wicklen, 72, farmer, and Maria Van Wicklen, 59, boarder. All b. NY (parents b. NY). These are grown children of Derrick and Magdalen Van Wicklen all living together in the same household.

 

       His will of 1 Jan 1855, proved 15 Sep 1856 [Queens Co. 7:294:] names wife Magdalen and all children except Richard & Charity who were then deceased.

       Van Wicklen cemetery on old South Road, Jamaica South [JCF LI cem. Inscriptions 1-25] Lewis GUEST d. 13 Apr 1848 age 76 (so b.1772) col. 5 p.73 says “bro. of Magdalene Van Wicklen” (revised list).

 

       In several Jamaica, NY RDC records Magdalene and others are referred to as GESS,  some of these are

Magdalane GESS:  [NYGBR 109:220: Maria, bap. 4 May 1823, dau. of Derick Van Wicklen and         Magdalane GESS.]

 

Jane GESS:  [NYGBR 109:2180?: Eliza, bap.5 Nov.1811, dau. of Abraham SNEDIKER and Jane GESS.]
