1699 Lived in Kings County, New York.
1713 butcher in New York City, New York.
Many sources following an LDS file has a Joseph Van CLEEF, b.abt.1707 Staten Island, NY, m.abt.1730 NJ, Sytie Van WIKKELEN, b.abt.1710 of NJ as a son of Isabrant. [source is supposed to be Van Cleef Family by Ledley Polyant] but this Joseph is Isabrant’s BROTHER, bap.25 Nov.1683, not his son. [MW]
Appeared as a member of the grand jury of Kings Co., NY in 1699. He is listed at the age of 28 on the 1706 State Island census and was listed as a butcher in 1713 in NY.
Isabrandt Van Cleef, second surviving son of Jan Van Cleef and Engeltje Laurens, was born in Kings County, NY, where he was doubtless raised. As a grand juror in the session in 1699, he must have been at least twenty-one at the time, and he was listed as aged 28 in the census of Staten Island, which is commonly believed to have been taken in 1706. He did not remain permanently on Staten Island, however, as he was a butcher in New York City in 1713. He and his wife became members of the New York Dutch Church on August 31, 1714 with letters from Flatbush, but on July 26, 1711 they had been baptismal sponsors on Staten Island, which might indicate that they had moved there between 1711 and 1713.
After January 1716 Isabrandt lived in Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey, where he ran a tavern.
As "Isebrandt Van Cleefe of Middletown, merchant," on May 1, 1717 he executed a full power of attorney to his "beloved wife Yannekye" to handle his affairs and presumably turned over his property to her. This explains the small amount of L20.12.3 in the inventory of his estate taken at Freehold January 13, 1728/9.
