Hugh was born 1725, and in about 1749, married Sarah Alcorn in Pennsylvania. Sarah was the daughter of James and Mary Alcorn. They first lived in Paxtang, Dauphin County, and then in 1758 moved to the new land of Sarahs parents on Conedoguinet Creek in East Pennsboro.

On October 30, 1758, James Alcorn deeded Hugh McCormick some 136 acres in Middleton Township, Cumberland County. They remained there until about 1770. They then purchased some 1300 acres in White Deer Valley in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania where they remained for the rest of their lives.
